Install the HearthVault browser extension (Chrome, Edge, Brave)
Step-by-step: download the 'Send to HearthVault' extension, load it in Chrome, Edge or Brave, connect it with a capture-only token, and file any PDF, image or page into your vault with a right-click.
The extension adds one thing to your browser: a right-click menu item, “Send to HearthVault”. Use it on a PDF statement, a receipt image, a policy page or a whole web page and it lands in your vault, where it is read, named, categorised and dated like any other upload. The token it uses can only add documents — it can never read, list or delete what is already in the vault.
Before you start
- A HearthVault vault you can unlock as the owner or partner (executors are read-only and cannot create a capture token).
- Chrome, Microsoft Edge or Brave on a laptop or desktop. Phones don't run desktop extensions — on a phone, install HearthVault from the browser menu instead and use Snap.
- About three minutes.
Step 1 — Download and unzip
- Unlock your vault, open Security (the shield icon) and scroll to “Browser extension — Send to HearthVault”.
- Click Download the extension. You get a small .zip file.
- Unzip it into a folder you'll keep — for example Documents › HearthVault extension. If you delete the folder later, the extension disappears too.
Step 2 — Load it in your browser
Chrome:
- In the address bar type chrome://extensions and press Enter.
- Turn on Developer mode (toggle, top right).
- Click Load unpacked and choose the unzipped folder (the one containing manifest.json).
- The HearthVault icon appears in the toolbar. Click the puzzle-piece icon and pin it if you like.
Microsoft Edge:
- Go to edge://extensions.
- Turn on Developer mode (left sidebar, bottom).
- Click Load unpacked and choose the unzipped folder.
Brave:
- Go to brave://extensions.
- Turn on Developer mode (top right).
- Click Load unpacked and choose the unzipped folder.
Step 3 — Connect it to your vault
- Back in HearthVault › Security › Browser extension, click Create token. The token is shown once — copy it.
- Right-click the HearthVault toolbar icon and choose Options (or Extension options).
- Paste the token, confirm the vault address (it's pre-filled with the site you're using), and Save.
Step 4 — File something
- Right-click a PDF, an image, a link to a file, or anywhere on a page → Send to HearthVault.
- Open the popup from the toolbar icon to see the last few items you sent and whether each was filed.
- Within a minute the document appears in your vault with a title, category and any dates it contained. Re-file it with one tap if the category isn't right.
Troubleshooting
- “Token rejected” — create a new token in Security and paste it again; creating a new one revokes the old.
- Nothing happens on right-click — some pages (bank portals, Google Docs) block extensions; save the file first and right-click the download instead.
- Extension vanished — the unzipped folder was moved or deleted. Unzip again and Load unpacked.
- Want to disconnect — click Disconnect in Security; the token stops working immediately.
Privacy
The extension sends only what you right-click, only to your own vault address, and only with your capture token. It has no analytics, no background browsing access and no permission to read your vault.
Everything you save, one right-click from the vault.
